Kelly Reemtsen x Charles and Ray Eames

Kelly Reemtsen x Eames

Two objects of my affection rolled into one. Could it be any more perfect?

I didn’t think so either.

I stumbled onto Kelly Reemtsen at the Brewery Art Walk and the best part was, she was hanging out in the space of “Collaborative Press” - which is described as a working in partnership with other artists, to produce limited edition works. Though, to give her street cred, I read an article form the LA Times that explains that she is a longtime resident. **update** After talking with Kelly, I have learned that she has been living their for 11 years. I am so jealous

*sigh* I want one. Or twelve.

Brewery Art Walk x Spring 2008

“Hip Cooks” brought me to “The Brewery” for the first time last year in my first adventure into cooking. For those who don’t know, the Brewery Art Colony in Los Angeles, California is the world’s largest live/work artist colony consisting of some 400 people. The Brewery, a 22-building complex on 23 acres, comprises a variety of structures, some dating back to 1888. It includes a combination of the former Eastside and Pabst Blue Ribbon Breweries, from which the community derives its name, and one of Los Angeles’ first power plants, Edison Power Station #3.

Visiting The Brewery was love at first site, especially when i found out there was a semi-annual art walk, where artists open their space to welcome the public in. The Art Walk was last weekend (April 5th and 6th) and I am still awe struck. Having a chance to see so many different artists and their creative space, was inspiring to say the least. I will be back there later this year, so see you there.

Some of my favorites of the show:

Amazing….

The Year of the Rat

yearoftherat_front_webs.jpg

According to the Chinese Zodiac, the Year of 2008 is a Year of the Rat (Earth), which begins on February 7, 2008 and ends on January 25, 2009. The Rat was welcomed in ancient times as a protector and bringer of material prosperity. It is an animal associated with aggression, wealth, charm, and order, yet also associated with death, war, the occult, pestilence, and atrocities.

A Rat Year is a time of hard work, activity, and renewal. This is a good year to begin a new job, get married, launch a product or make a fresh start. Ventures begun now may not yield fast returns, but opportunities will come for people who are well prepared and resourceful. The best way for you to succeed is to be patient, let things develop slowly, and make the most of every opening you can find.

Our friends at Giant Robot are celebrating the New Year with a gallery showing, at their GR2 location. Many great local artists contributed to the event - BuffMonster, Gary Bassman, Dan-ah Kim and Jay Ryan to name a few. I am stoked to have had a chance to check it out on the openning weekend and you should see it before it closes on April 16th!

Found in Culver City: Let’s Be Frank

frank.jpg
Who says that hot dogs are only good at the baseball game(dodgers), at the Carnival or after a late night drinking (Pink’s)? Well - whoever said it didn’t know about the craving that can be generated after having a nice dog with onions at “Let’s Be Frank”…

I first overheard about the small cart in Helm’s Bakery in a passing conversation. Then saw a little write up in the LA Times and figured I had to check this out and see what all the buzz was about. All I can say is that I am impressed, its a seriously good “dog”.

Queens of the Stone Age x Billy Idol

Era Vulgaris

Who doesn’t love Billy Idol? I recently stumbled onto a cover of “White Wedding” and was instantly hooked. This track was offered as a bonus download for people who bought the CD from Best Buy… I really can’t stop playing the song, something about my past and wanting to be as rock as “Idol”

check it out!
